When your mum or dad is seriously ill, it can be a scary and sad time. The grown-ups around you may be feeling very sad and stressed out too. It can be tricky to think about who you can talk to and what you can do to help and how you can help yourself feel a little better.
Here at Jeremiah’s Journey we have a project called Stepping Stones which is there to help children just like you. When your family gets in touch with us we will make a time to meet up with you. We like to say hello and tell you about what we do. You can tell us what we can do to help.
One of the things that we do is to run a group for boys and girls just like you. You can do lots of making things, a bit of having fun and a bit of talking. The groups are at Plymouth College of Art where you get to try out lots of different activities. You might feel a bit nervous about starting a new group so you could meet up with one of the group members first for a chat.
We hope that by meeting other boys and girls who have something similar happening in their families that it will help you.
“Before I joined Stepping Stones I didn’t feel I had anyone to speak to. Now I can speak freely and enjoy myself whilst doing it. If I hadn’t joined Stepping Stones, I don’t know what I would’ve done. It’s been so helpful.”
