On Saturday 13th April 2013 Jean and Andy Hardwick celebrated their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. We are so grateful to them for supporting us through their happy occasion…
I first got involved with Jeremiah’s Journey not long after moving to Plymouth. I was working with children where some had experienced loss and I expressed an interest to attend some training at St Luke’s Hospice which was delivered by Dr Sheila Cassidy, a founder of Jeremiah’s Journey.
I lost my mother when I was 17yrs old and had experienced how her death had affected not only myself but my brothers and sister too. When I found out they were looking for volunteers to help with the group sessions I knew I had to get involved. I also roped my hubby into a number of fund raising events along the way and I’m pleased to say he never complained!
Last year we celebrated our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and decided that we didn’t want any presents, but that we would ask all our guests to make a donation to Jeremiah’s Journey. We had a group called Last Orders playing live music for us and they kindly gave up their time for a donation to Jeremiah’s Journey. From the night itself we raised a staggering £635.00 and a further £20 was given to us after the party, so in total our family and friends donated £655.00, which we were delighted to handed over to the team.
I know how difficult it is to raise funds to keep this fantastic charity going and I only wish there had been was something like this out there for me and my family at the time when we needed it. So come on folks anyone out there celebrating a special birthday or anniversary – just think how you could help Jeremiah’s Journey whilst having a great time.
