‘The Elephant in the Room’ – preparing and planning for the inevitable
On Friday 27th and Saturday 28th of March the Plymouth Central Library will be holding ‘The Elephant in the Room’ launch event from 9.30am until 4pm. This is a free public event aiming to encourage people to talk more openly about death and bereavement and to make plans for the end of life.
George Lillie the regional representative of the national Dying Matters Coalition will be the key note speaker to launch The Elephant in the Room. In addition to this, over a dozen other speakers will present talks on a range of important end of life matters from money and legal to bereavement and business succession.
Our CEO Joanne Anning will also be speaking on behalf of the charity about bereavement and the support we provide for children, young people and their families at such a difficult time in their lives.
During the two day conference a selection of information stands and an advice hub will also be available to the public, as well as this a not-for-profit magazine “The D Word”, giving practical advice and news about end of life matters, including a page on Jeremiah’s Journey, will be available to purchase.
Civil funeral celebrant and organiser of ‘The Elephant in the Room’, Wendy Coulton, edited the magazine. She believes it captures the key topics explored at ‘The Elephant in the Room’ so that attendees have something to take away with them to read, reflect upon and perhaps make some steps to get their end of life affairs in order.
