In April this year Matthew Chubb of Chubb Electrics will be taking part in the Marathon Des Sables ‘the toughest footrace on earth’ to raise money for us!
The race is a ‘gruelling multi-stage adventure through a formidable landscape in one of the world’s most inhospitable climates – the Sahara desert’. The rules require participants to be completely self-sufficient and to carry on their back everything they need to survive (apart from water). They are given a place in a tent to sleep at night. To complete the race, Matt will have to run the equivalent of five and a half marathons in five or six days, a total distance of 251 km – 156 miles!
Matt is in the swimming pool by six in the morning and often takes part in Marathons for fun. His most recent challenge was the Eden Marathon which was extremely tough; however this challenge will be his toughest yet.
He is currently training hard for this event but nothing can prepare you for running five and a half marathons in five days in the heat of the Sahara!
Matt chose to support Jeremiah’s Journey as he has a close colleague whose mum died when he was 15, so he knows the effect that bereavement can have on children.
Matt is hoping to raise £5k from the challenge to support grieving children and their families in the local area.
