When your mum or dad is seriously ill, it can be a scary and sad time. Other people around you may be feeling very sad and stressed out too. It can be hard to talk to others and you may feel worried about upsetting them. When you have lots of different feelings, it may be confusing and hard to know how to cope.
Here at Jeremiah’s Journey we have a project called Stepping Stones which is there to help young people just like you. When your family gets in touch with us we will make a time to meet up with you. We like to say hello and tell you about what we do. You can tell us what we can do to help.
The key thing that we offer is a group for children and young people who are going through something similar. At the group sessions you have the opportunity to do lots of creative activities, a bit of having fun and a bit of talking. The groups are at Plymouth College of Art in town where you get to try out lots of different activities. You might feel a bit nervous about starting a new group so you could meet up with one of the group members first for a chat.
We hope that by meeting other young people who have something similar happening in their families that it will help you.
“I love coming to Stepping Stones. It’s a place where you can feel safe amongst people who understand you. No one forces you to talk if you don’t want to and no one will judge you. We all come from different backgrounds, but we have one thing in common that brings us together… We are a family and I love my family”
